The dangers of Amalgam fillings

Amalgam (Mercury) fillings

Our teeth play a vital role in our overall health. Each tooth is connected to our organs, body systems, and emotions. Dentists have been using Mercury fillings for 100 years, and all of these fillings are equal to 50% Mercury. In July 2008, the FDA issued a ruling that changed the classification of amalgam fillings from a class one device to a class two, which means more risk.

“ amalgam also releases low levels of mercury vapor, a chemical that at high exposure levels is well-documented to cause neurological and renal adverse health effects. Mercury vapor concentrations are highest immediately after dental amalgam placement and removal but decline after that.”

While the FDA has acknowledgDentaled the adverse direct effects, they continue to approve their use. The science again was never settled, and millions of Americans are paying the ultimate price. Here are two more statements from the FDA- “The average filling has 1 gram of mercury and leaks mercury vapor continuously due to mercury’s low vapor pressure along with loss due to galvanic action of mercury with dissimilar metals in the mouth, resulting in significant exposure for most [people] with amalgam fillings.”

“Mercury vapor is transmitted rapidly throughout the body, easily crosses cell membranes, and like organic methyl mercury has significant toxic effects at much lower levels of exposure than other inorganic mercury forms.”

The longer these fillings are in an individual's mouth, the more exposure builds up. Chewing, grinding, and hot liquids cause even more exposure. A Mayo Clinic study showed chewing gum increased exposure far above “Safe” levels.
